CORK HARVEST

By Christian Smith, August 6, 2021

The cork harvest takes place every year from May to August, and the below pictures were taken earlier this week in Coruche, Ribatejo regionPortugal. A cork oak tree is only harvested once it has fully matured – a process that takes 25 years. Each tree is then harvested every nine years, giving a chance for the bark to grow back thick enough to make usable cork.
